(screaming, bombs) >> at 11. terror strikes the streets of boston. two explosions near the finish line of the boston marathon. several people killed and nearly 150 others injured. there are new reports coming in. police are searching an apartment in a boston suburb. just five miles from downtown boston. and authorities have confirmed the search is connected to the boston marathon explosions. the f-b-i is leading the investigation. here is what we know right now. police say, at least three people were killed in the blasts -- one victim, an eight year old boy. more than 140 others were injured. the explosions were about a block apart - and happened within seconds of each other. some victims lost limbs, suffered broken bones, shrapnel wounds and ruptured eardrums. of those hurt, officials say, at least 15 are in critical condition. police have no suspects in custody. however, police are searching an apartment in a boston suburb. in connection to the deadly blasts. officials in washington say, there has be

(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> a driver is killed after a fiery freeway crash in novato. tonight, the connector ramp from northbound highway 101 to eastbound highway 37 has re-opened. but not before kron four's philippe djegal reports -- speed played in a role in a person's death. >> reporter: this charred honda sedan burst into flames at around 6-45 in the evening. after the california highway patrol says the driver. traveling at a high rate of speed in the fast lane of northbound highway 101 in novato. cut across all four lanes of traffic to get onto eastbound highway 37. investigators say the car flipped several times. >> it crossed the border point. where it traveled on to the dirt portion of the shoulder and struck the bridge of 37 overpass. >> reporter: before landing in the ditch. then, the car and driver caught fire. the driver was the only person involved in the crash. the chp says that person won't be identified until the autopsy is completed. the number four lane of highway 101 was closed briefly after the accident, then r
that happened tuesday morning, on the 23- hundred block of regatta way. kron four's philippe djegal explains the latest incident. and why neighbors fear that a neighboring city's crime problem. is becoming theirs too. the san leandro police department says this burglary started with a simple knock on the door. the victim was alone and asleep just before midnight wednesday. and, did not answer the door. the victim is in her 80s. and, off camera, she tells kron four. that the suspects broke into her home, by busting through the garage and front door. she says one of the two men held her captine in a room, --captive... while the other suspect ransacked the house. rick megoloff also lives on black pine drive, and is president of the neighborhood homeowners association. he and a few others are worried that the crime in oakland is spilling into the neighborhood. the victim does not have a video surveillance system. and could only provide police with a vague description of the two men. the san leandro police department says that in both burglary cases this week. the victims are asian women. so, inv

at the valero gas station on seminary and macdonald about ten o=clock last night. kron four's jeff bush spoke with neighbors of the man who was killed. lionel fluker was known by everyone in his neighborhood. they say he was kind and warm hearted. lionel was getting gas at the valero on his way home from the gym and was killed by a bullet intended for someone else. santos peinado next door neighbor a kind guy like that. he was just trying to go home. he was minding his own business and was going home but, he didn't make it. this is the second killing over there and now, it's affected us because this man was a part of our community and it's a great loss for all of us. lionell's neighbors are heartbroken over his death and so is his dog, pepper. we are just watching her until that situation gets settled. more details will arrive on that. meanwhile, it's still shocking that this guy we see every daywe're not going to see anymore. sonya gellington you couldn't ask for a better person. he minded his own business. everybody knew him for walking with his dog pepper. he was always riding his bike. li

(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> details of the condition of the surviving marathon bombing suspect that shut down the surrounding boston area during the search are trickling out tonight. right now we know the surviving suspect, nineteen-year-old johar tsar-neye-ev, is in serious but stable condition and is unable to communicate, yet. he is recovering at a boston hospital guarded by armed officers. tsarnaev was captured last night inside a boat parked in a watertown backyard. these are images of that boat. the suspect's uncle, says the 19 year old was quote "used" by his 26 year old brother, tamerlan tsarnaev. but the hierarchy in the bombing plot is still unclear. we are also learning that federal public defenders have agreed to represent the surviving suspect. the office set to represent the suspect says a lawyer should be appointed as soon as possible because there are "serious issues regarding possible interrogation." a sense of relief for boston area residents now that the remaining suspect in the boston marathon bombin

(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now.a man slams his car into a san jose walmart. and then attacks customers with a pipe. this happened on sunday. four *people were hurt in the mayhem, including one victim who remains in the hospital with serious injuries tonight. here's the man who police say is to blame. he is 31- year-old haamid zaid, of seaside. he has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest. and hit and run. police suspect zaid was under the influence of drugs, but did not disclose anything else about a possible motive for what happened. the busy walmart on story road. re-opened this morning with sheets of plywood covering the doors and windows which shattered. when zaid allegedly crashed his car into the entrance. police say, the suspect first rammed into two cars in the parking lot, before heading for the front doors, which were blocked by several concrete- filled posts. the chaotic scene was captured in this cell-phone video which was posted on you tube. kron 4 spoke with one victim of the attack. she descri
